Hi,
Well, there was not a lot to see or do in most of Nebraska, Iowa,
Illinois, or Indiana. Although we did visit the John Deere plant in
Iowa and saw some pretty impressive farm equipment.
Also in Iowa there are seven old German communities from the 1800's that still have about 30% descendents from the original. Among other things, they make the finest furniture that I have ever seen. Every piece, (bed, table, chair, or whatever) is made from start to finish by one of the workers there. The finish is so smooth that it is hard to believe. And the prices are surprisingly very reasonable.
We got to North Carolina and spent some time in the Smokies. It is very pretty there. The mountains are very extensive and the colors are just great, but the haze makes it hard to capture the real beauty as the attached photos show.
Love from the homeless ones, Bob & Virginia
